Tears of Terengganu

Assalamualaikum and salam sejahtera.

A clip of the sea during monsoon season

The sea

Finally settled down at home after my family trip to Terengganu for 4 days 3 nights. Mind you, it's the monsoon season there right now so you can imagine how wet it was for the past 4 days. It was raining non-stop and the sun was nowhere to be seen. The weather too eventually got to my mood and made me homesick as ever. Despite the weather, it was a great place with unique foods and shopping treats, especially the batik stalls :)

I'm just going to cut to the chase on my trip there. We went to eat at this warung called Poklong near the Terengganu Airport to eat ICT which stands for Ikan Celup Tepung. There wasn't just fish but also a variety of seafood like squid and stingrays. Surprisingly, the fried seafood didn't feel heavy and greasy but light and crunchy, while still preserving the freshness of the seafood. It was really enjoyable to eat it on a wet day.

Then we went to tour the famous Pasar Payang. Not the new building facing the sea but the old building with its lively environment, where people gather to sell and buy goods to bring home. Even during these rainy season, the pile of durians still have its place to shine under the rows of tent placed in front of the market. Sadly, I didn't eat them during the trip *sobs*. Instead we went to buy songket and batik for ourselves at Stall 50 next to the stairs. My parents specifically went to buy those at this stall because they've went there before and were really satisfied with the quality. I have to admit, we spent 3 hours there just picking songket and batik. We really did a mess there haha.

Penyu :3
After purchasing the songket and batik, we went around sightseeing the pasar. Me and my sister went to buy some souviniers for keepsake. I bought myself a stuffed fluffy penyu :3 haha.

Maggie sup
And then more stories on food. We went to had lunch at the pasar too. I tried this dish called 'maggie sup' at a small food stall. It's basically maggie and sup tulang mixed together. Plus a little extra which was the chicken feet. Okay, this had to be one of my first and last experience eating it. To be honest, I don't like chicken feet. It felt slimy and bony(?) *shivers*. I'd prefer stomach, yumm.

Then nearby our hotel, there was a row of stalls selling ais krim goreng. I have to admit, it was pretty good. The outer layer was like some kind of fried bread and the inside had all the lovely ice cream, ready to melt in your mouth once you bite it.

On our way back, we went to kedai keropok lekor 008 to buy some keropok lekor for house supply. If you were ever in Terengganu, never miss to buy the keropok lekor. It is a delicacy there :) and the keropok lekor 008 is one of the stalls that sell delicious piping hot keropok lekor. We bought around 8 packets so that we can distribute among friends and family at home. Plus the bottles of special sos to dip in the keropok lekor.

On our way back. We had to go through the flood.

So yeah, that was how our trip to Terengganu was. Lots of eating and raining (and weight gaining -____-).
